It’s been a long wait but this afternoon staff and pupils gave a big welcome to Mr Keitany, our new Maths/Physics teacher. Mr Keitany has travelled from Kenya to take up the teaching post. Welcome to Kinlochbervie High School.
S1-3 are taking part in the Highland Schools Indoor Rowing League 2017 this term. This is the first time the school has taken part in it and so far we have had some fantastic results for round 1. The pupils all compete as individuals to try and cover the biggest distance possible in a set time. Pupils are awarded points for how well they do in their distance and the school is awarded points based on how many pupils participate. They compete in 3 rounds in PE time between February and March in school and take part in a final 4th round in a festival format in a central location in Highland. S1 each compete for 2 minutes, S2 for 3 minutes and S3 for 4 minutes. Round 2 will be the week beginning Monday 6 March. Their Round 1 results are as follows:

Our podcast elective pupils have been working hard and would like you all to share their first in a series of fortnightly podcasts. The podcast was written, presented and recorded by the pupils and features school and local news as well as some music they’ve selected.
A message from Cara Cameron, the school’s Youth Development Worker…
I just wanted to send a quick email to highlight how proud I am of the young people who attended Thursdays area youth conference in Lairg. Craig, Chelsea and Tom attended as Sutherland youth forum representatives. Part of the day was allocated to elections for Highland youth parliament representatives and it was with great delight that Tom stood for election. Tom only had half hour to compose a speech but what an amazing job he did. So out of 8 standing for election and only 4 official places Tom was elected as a HYP reserve. Although Kieran was unable to attend the day, Craig and Chelsea had composed a speech for Kieran on his behalf as Kieran had also expressed an interest in standing. Kieran never made it into the main 4 but he did get onto the reserve reserve list J.
The role of Highland youth representative is a vital link between young people and the higher policy makers so not to be taken lightly and holds a lot of reasonability. I would ask that Tom is given full support in his role. It is a privilege to have Tom supporting our school and community in this role.
