Scottish National Standardised Assessments

The Scottish Government has launched the Scottish National Standardised Assessments.  It is part of National Improvement Framework and Improvement Plan for Scottish Education which aims to deliver both excellence and equity in education.

There is an on-line guide for parents and carers that focuses on Assessing Children’s Progress.

They’re off!

Good luck to Stuart, Kieran, Lucy, Alan and Mr Smart who have now set out from Dunrobin Castle on the Coast to Coast Walk.   They join pupils from Golspie and Dornoch High Schools for a five-day walk across Sutherland.  At Laxford Bridge, the Lochinver Lifeboat will meet the group and transport them to Kinlochbervie.  We expect them to arrive at Loch Clash in Kinlochbervie on Tuesday afternoon.

The group are fundraising for the RNLI, the East Sutherland Rescue Service and Friends of Sutherland Veterans.  The three schools will also benefit.

Thank you to all who given your financial support.

Summer Outdoor Activities

Murdoch Jamieson, our Active Schools Coordinator, is currently working a summer activity programme.  One option is to organise some activities at the Ferrycroft Centre in Lairg.  Potential activities are Open Canoeing, Kayaking, Mountain Biking, Bushcraft and Raft Building.

The charge would be £25 per day plus approximately an additional £10 per day for transport.  The dates would be in mid-July – probably around July 13-14.  The age range is 8-14 years.

Mr Jamieson would like to have an idea of parent interest before making further commitments with the Ferrycroft Centre.

If you or your child/children might be interested in these activities, Mr Jamieson would appreciate it if you let him know.

Vancouver Field Trip – Valentine’s Hamper

To raise funds for the Vancouver field trip (4-11 October 2017), we will be having several fundraising events.  The first is a Valentine’s Hamper.

Parents should send in an item for the hamper by next Monday.  One item per family group is sufficient.  Pupils will also be expected to actively sell the raffle tickets in their villages.

The hamper will have a red-coloured theme so where possible try to buy items with this in mind.

Some hamper ideas:

  • chocolates
  • sparkling rose wine
  • candles
  • Valentine’s Day decorations
  • heart-shaped biscuits
  • red-coloured shower gel/bath foam/soap
  • heart-shaped accessories – dish, mirror, magnet, sign, etc etc
  • Valentine’s teddy
  • jam
  • Love Heart sweets
  • Love Songs CD
  • Rom Com DVD
  • cup cakes

…and any other items you feel are suitable!

All items should be handed in by Monday 6 February.  Pupils will then be given tickets to sell in their area.

Thank you.
